Animal Crossing 2.0: How to Unlock the Cafe

Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update finally added the long-awaited feature to the life simulation game, which is Brewster and his cafe The Roost. You and both your virtual and real-life friends can flock around the new wing of the Museum to sit back, relax, and enjoy a cup of coffee. However, as with other facilities in Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0, you will need to unlock the cafe first before you can visit it. Here’s how you can open your very own cafe.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0: How to Get Brewster and Unlock The Roost Cafe

As an Island Representative (the first person to start a new island), you need to fulfill these two requirements first to open The Roost:

  • Get a 3-star Island Rating and have K.K. Slider visits your island.

  • Donate at least one item (bugs, fishes, fossils, sea creatures, and a piece of art) for each part of the Museum.

Then talk to Blathers in the Museum. The art curator will propose the idea of opening a cafe in the facility, but Brewster is nowhere to be found. Head to your island’s pier to find Kapp’n and pay 1,000 Nook Miles to go on a boat tour to Mystery Island. There you should find the barista bird wandering around looking for Gyroids. Speak with him and Brewster will agree to move to your island and set up The Roost. He will also give you a Gyroid fragment, which can be planted and be fully grown the next day if you water it.

Go back and talk to Blathers, the owl will say that Brewster will be coming soon. Nevertheless, you will have to wait for two days to unlock the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 cafe; the following day the Museum will be closed for renovation and the day after the cafe is finally open. That means if you meet Brewster and confirm his arrival with Blathers on Monday, The Roost will be unlocked on Wednesday. A new door with a sign will then appear up the stairs and to the left.

At first, you can only sit on the barstool and order a coffee for 200 Bells. But by visiting Brewster and ordering coffee once per day, the barista will give you more options to enjoy your time at The Roost. Do note though that all these additional cafe features can take three to seven days to happen:

  1. Cool down your coffee by blowing on it.

  2. Ordering takeout coffee.

  3. Getting coffee beans and recipes.

  4. Adding pigeon milk to your coffee.

Aside from spending time alone at The Roost, Villagers will periodically make random appearances. Island staff like Isabelle may also appear on occasion. You can also invite specific Villagers using amiibo by calling the amiibo Call Center via the cafe’s yellow phone. Use the phone again if you need to ask a Villager to leave and invite another one. Or you can just walk out of The Roost and they will be gone.

When online, other players can visit your cafe as well. You (or any of your friends) can even offer to pay for the whole party’s check. Funny enough, if you don’t have enough Bells, Brewster will instead serve you a glass of plain water. There are also Gyroids in the back room which might hint that Brewster can provide Gyroid storage.
