Blood Origin’ prequel adds Michelle Yeoh

The Witcher: Blood Origin has found its newest cast member in Michelle Yeoh.

On Tuesday (July 6), Netflix announced that Michelle Yeoh has officially joined the cast of the upcoming limited series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Set in an elven world 1200 years before the events of The Witcher, Blood Origin centers on the creation of the first prototype Witcher and the events that eventually culminate into the conjunction of the spheres, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

For her part, Michelle Yeoh is set to take one the role of Scían— the very last of her nomadic kind of sword-elves. She’s unmatched when it comes to her artistry with a blade, but is also dealing with an immeasurable amount of loss. When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means, Scían launches herself into a deadly quest that will change the outcome of the Continent.

Others who’ve already signed on to star in The Witcher: Blood Origin include Laurence O’Fuarain. O’Fuarain will play Fjall on the series— an individual born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a King. In his quest for redemption, Fjall will find himself fighting beside the most unlikely of allies as he carves a path of vengeance across a continent in turmoil.

Behind the camera, Delcan de Barra is set to serve as executive producer and showrunner on the six-part, live-action limited series prequel. Also on board is Andrzej Sapkowski, who will act as a creative consultant on the project.

Executive producers for the Netflix series include Lauren Schmidt, Jason Brown, Sean Daniel, Tomek Baginski, and Jarek Sawko.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see The Witcher: Blood Origin debut via Netflix.
