Five Games You Must Play With Your 3D Pulse Headset – GameSpew

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart

If you’ve got a PS5, there are numerous reasons why you might want to invest in a good headset. And your best option right now, carefully balancing performance, build quality and price, is the Sony 3D Pulse.

Available now with an RRP of £89.99, the Sony 3D Pulse headset lets you get the most out of the PS5’s Tempest 3D audio. Even games that don’t support 3D audio sound great when using it, however, and it’s got a great range of features including mic monitoring. Check out our review of the headset if you’d like to know more.

If you do pick up a 3D Pulse and want some games to play that will really display its capabilities to you, we’ve put together a short list yo guide you on your way. All of the games below are great whether you play them with a headset on or not. But if you do play them with a headset on, particularly the Sony 3D Pulse, your experience is likely to be elevated to the next level.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War 3 (1)

With its entertaining campaign, co-op zombies mode and competitive multiplayer offerings, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is one hell of a package. When played with the 3D Pulse headset, however, it’s simply better. In the campaign you’ll enjoy the more natural sound that the headset provides – when you’re back out your hideout, for example, you truly get the sense of its cold, cavernous nature as your allies speak to you. And on the 3D audio front, while it’s nice that you can pinpoint exactly where the jukebox is that’s playing in the bar during the game’s opening scene, it’s during multiplayer that you’ll reap the true benefits.

Being able to hear the patter of feet behind you with accuracy and clarity might just save your life a time or two. At the very least it’ll make you more immersed in the theatre of war. Needless to say, if you have a Sony 3D Pulse headset, you’d be wise to give Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War your time of day.

Demon’s Souls

Demon's Souls (1)

A journey to Boletaria is always an eventful one. Challenging, but eventful. But that’s what makes Demon’s Souls so good. In its dark, uncompromising world, you never know what’s around the next corner, and every battle is as tense as the last. Don a 3D Pulse headset, and the action gets even more intense.

Like a horror game, Demon’s Souls is undoubtedly best enjoyed with a headset. Isolated from the world around you, every dark corridor you explore becomes more menacing, and every enemy encounter becomes that bit more terrifying. Beyond that, with music scant in the game, you’re able to soak in the haunting atmosphere of the environments you wander. And, more importantly, pinpoint in which direction that strange noise you’ve just heard originates from. You’ll be thankful for the advantage that brings considering the game’s combat is so brutal.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man Miles Morales 2 Programas de TV y datos de series. Guía de episodios, información, reseñas, avances de capitulos, fotos, videos youtube oficial. - Programas de TV, Series, Guía de episodios.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was our first taste of what the PS5 is capable of. Needless to say, it didn’t disappoint. At launch it was its visuals that impressed us the most, along with its riveting story and combat that was a clear step up from that of the original game. Revisiting it with the Sony 3D Pulse, however, also reveals a thrilling audio experience.

Down on the street, you really get the experience of a living, breathing New York City, with the chatter of people around you as they go about their business, and the hum of engines as cars pass by. Then, as you make use of your web slingers and take to the air, the realistic swooshing noises as you pass by huge buildings at great speed further drive home the fact that you are Spider-Man.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart 2

There’s no doubt about it, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the best-looking game on PS5. In fact, it’s probably the best-looking game available right now, period. That would mean nothing if it wasn’t fun to play, however, and thankfully it’s an absolute blast. If you want to make it even more of an exhilarating audio-visual experience though, you’ll want to play it with your Sony 3D Pulse headset on.

Despite the action being chaotic at times, with a considerable number of enemies on screen all vying for your furry little behind, the audio remains crisp and clear. And when you’re not in combat, the lively nature of the game’s environments draws you into its world. It was when we were tasked with visiting Club Nefarious in Nefarious City that the 3D Pulse impressed us the most in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, however – the bass assaulting our ears as if we were really in a club without even a hint of distortion.

Returnal 3 (1)

Housemarque’s Returnal is an utterly unique gaming experience, combining the studio’s arcade heritage with the third-person shooter and roguelike genres. Trapped on an alien planet, the high level of challenge will result in you dying, dying and then dying again before you see the credits roll. And even then your journey isn’t truly over. You’ll want to don a 3D Pulse headset to get the most out of this electrifying adventure, however.

Composed by Bobby Krlic, Returnal’s atmospheric soundtrack does a great job of making you feel uneasy across the multiple alien environments you encounter. Even more impressive when you’re wearing a headset, however, are the sound effects. The weapons at your disposal feel more powerful, and nearby explosions pound your eardrums with force. The shrieks and other noises of your enemies also give Returnal more of a horrifying feel – more than once we’ve jumped out of our skin as they’ve suddenly, and rather noisily, exposed themselves.

And then there’s the fact that being able to pinpoint where your enemies are in the environment gives you an extra edge in combat, one that might just mean the difference between life and death. Needless to say, Returnal is the game to play if you want to see hear how 3D audio can really elevate your gaming experience.
