There are quite a few projects being developed under the Resident Evil banner at the moment. With new video games, movies, and even TV shows all in development – it seems surprising that there could be room at all for another new project. But as it turns out, there is! It appears that in addition to Netflix’s upcoming live action Resident Evil TV series, there’s also a CGI animated series – titled Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness – in development as well.

The new CGI animated Resident Evil series was announced at Tokyo Games Show 2020. Executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi unveiled the news during the Capcom TGS Live 2020 stream.

The announcement also included a teaser trailer for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which gives fans a look at the character designs and reveals that Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield will both be the focus of the show. While no voice actors were revealed for the project, it certainly looks to hit all the right notes visually.

It’s worth mentioning that Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will have nothing to do with Netflix’s upcoming live action series or the pre-existing live action film franchise. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see how the show turns out. Hopefully we’ll have more information soon in the coming months regarding both this series and Netflix’s live-action show, especially with the upcoming video game Resident Evil Village on the way. There are a lot of projects in development under the Resident Evil brand, and now with the live action film franchise concluded, let’s hope that they continue to satisfy fans who’ve been waiting for a more respectful and faithful era of Resident Evil lore.

While there is no specific release date given, the upcoming new series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is currently expected to hit the Netflix streaming platform at some point in 2021.
