Netflix is looking to turn Assassin’s Creed into a live action series!

In a press release sent out on Tuesday (October 27), Netflix announced that it has teamed up with Ubisoft to develop a series based off of the hit video game franchise, Assassin’s Creed.

The agreement between Netflix and Ubisoft is interesting in the sense that it doesn’t just limit the streamer to developing a live action series adaptation of the international best selling video game.

In addition, it also covers adaptation of the animated and anime series variety, meaning that we could very well see quite a few different iterations of Assassin’s Creed hit the online streaming giant’s platform.

As the project has only just been announced, there’s still not much more information out there with regards to what, specifically a series adaptation would dive into. In addition, the streamer has yet to find the perfect showrunner to spearhead the project.

In a statement announcing the partnership, Peter Friedlander (Vice President, Original Series, Netflix) spoke of how much everyone at Netflix is looking forward to teaming up with Ubisoft to create a series adaptation of the game.

“We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is beloved for,” said Friedlander. “From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”

This isn’t the first time the video game franchise has been adapted for the screen. 2016 found fans flocking to the cinema to check out the big screen adaptation of the video game, starring Michael Fassbender.

Of course, as video game connoisseurs know, there are many stories yet left to tell, which means that Netflix won’t be left wanting when it comes to inspiration.
