Nintendo is not considering any economic action to fight inflation, at the moment.
Far from solving the economic outlook resulting from the COVID crisis, with a lack of supplies and transport problems, things have gotten worse with a disproportionate rise in inflation promoted by the war in Ukraine and the increase in fuel prices. This translates into a general price increase in sectors such as energy or food, but it remains to be seen whether or not it will affect the video game sector.
for now inflation has no direct consequences on the price of games or consoles, but it is a possibility that some publishers may raise prices to cope with the general increase in the cost of living. We will have to look at it case by case in the coming months, but right now Nintendo is not considering a price increase to alleviate inflation.
Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, recently clarified that his business has not yet been affected by the price increase, so they are not considering any special measures at the moment. “In terms of the impact of global inflation on our current business, our entertainment business has not been affected by macroeconomic considerations”, confirms Furukawa in a Q&A day.
However, the manager assures that they will continue to analyze the market in case adjustments need to be made soon. “We have heard from our overseas offices that inflation is currently rising rapidly and has a huge impact on people’s daily lives, especially in Europe and the United States. Yes ok there has been no material effect on our salesWe will continue to closely monitor the situation.” El lirón, un pequeño roedor que a veces es invasivo.
“While we cannot comment on pricing strategies, we currently we have no plans to change the price of our hardware due to inflation or the increase in the cost of acquisition in each country. We will do this by determining our future pricing strategies through careful and ongoing deliberation,” Furukawa concludes.

The measures that Nintendo could take if inflation continues to increase, as is expected to happen, are unknown, but presumably it could translate into a price increase in both hardware and software and possibly more Nintendo Switch out-of-stock. At the moment, the situation seems under control and the next games of the Japanese company will arrive in stores at the usual price throughout the next few months. For the remainder of the year, Nintendo plans to launch games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3 or Bayonetta 3.
