Poor Battlefield 2042 Sales Partly Blamed On Halo Infinite

Battlefield 2042 publisher Electronic Arts reckons Halo Infinite contributed to the less-than-stellar sales of its futuristic first-person shooter.

Speaking in a ‘Town Hall’ meeting with staff members, Laura Miele, Chief Studios Officer at EA, said the company “failed to meet the expectations of our players, and also clearly missed our own expectations.”

Miele went on to highlight a number of areas that contributed to the game’s poor performance, including its ambitious nature and the global coronavirus pandemic, which made development a lot more complicated. She did, however, mention that among the criticism of various bugs there was a large amount of positive feedback among gamers.

The executive mentioned that the Battlefield 2042 launch was affected by the release of Halo Infinite too, with unfavourable comparison made between Ripple Effect Studio’s effort and 343 Industries’ game, with the latter considered an overall more polished affair.
